Z.ai is a Chinese technology company founded in 2019 and associated with Founder Tang Jie.1 It trains and releases GLM large language models.1 Formerly branded Zhipu AI outside China, the Tsinghua-linked company listed on the Hong Kong Stock Exchange in January 2026.
History
Tang Jie founded the company in Beijing in 2019 as a Tsinghua University spin-out. Researchers released the first GLM model in 2022, and the international brand became Z.ai.1
